I have had my blog for just over 3 years and during that time, my blog has become a little messy. So, here are a few ways you can declutter your blog and in no way will it happen in one sitting because that would just take forever!
Add featured images
When I write a new blog post and schedule it, I preview the blog post and underneath the post, other posts are recommended. If it doesn’t have a featured image, I would add one and it takes a maximum of 2 minutes per post. Gradually, you should be able to have all your posts to show up nicely instead of it being blank.
Alternatively, if you do choose to sit down for an hour, go through each year (starting with the first year you’ve blogged) and add featured images. You don’t have to take new pictures. It would be more ideal to use a picture already integrated into that post. Make sure you start adding featured images so then you don’t constantly have to do this step.
Update your pages
I do this at least once a month or once every two months. This is to make sure that the information on there is up to date or are still working. If you’ve changed your colour scheme or take better quality pictures, it would be a good idea to replace any images.
When was the last time you have added, replaced or gotten rid of a widget?? Not only will it give your blog a fresh look, it would make it look less cluttered because having too many unnecessary widgets could lose you readers OR vice versa! Having a bare widget or footer may look boring and will not be useful. Here are a few basics you should consider for your sidebar and footer:
- About Me
- WordPress follow button
- Email follow form
- Popular posts
Fix broken links
This is by far the hardest out of them all (especially when you have a lot of content). Install a broken link checker plugin and get rid of or update the links. This will improve your SEO score. I’m not sure why it does but if you search it up on google, it would be more helpful.
Change your titles
I would go through your posts and get rid of complicated titles and change them with keywords. This improves SEO because it makes it more likely for your site to be indexed and searched. Start to add to keywords now so you don’t have to change your titles later on.
Give a title to your images
This would be mentally and physically draining to go through all your images and change it from img37826 to What’s in my bag. So the best thing to do is when you are adding your featured images to your old posts, from time to time, change the title of the images. Make sure to make this a habit when adding images to your new posts. The point of this all is to improve your SEO as it makes it more likely for your site to be indexed and searched. Also, if someone pins your image and someone clicks it, it won’t say img37826, It will say What’s in my bag.
Hover or click to pin. Thank you!
So that is all the tips I have for you all today! I hope you guys have found it helpful in some way. Have a great day everyone!
