Back to school tips, you need to know

Hello everyone,

I can’t believe that this is the second to last back to school post for 2018. How crazy fast did it go?? Anyway, I will be sharing with you 6 tips that you can take on to the next school year which will be very helpful.

Set a deadline before the actual deadline

Not only will it help you complete your homework or essay on time, it will motivate you to start your work as soon as possible and it will give you extra time to review your work and get extra marks.

Do five minutes of planning/to do list making

Planning makes you feel like you’ve got your life together. But, that is not the point! Now you have a plan you could follow and get rid of the hump of starting because you know what to get on with straight away. Click here for a useful post on how to find the perfect way for you to plan.

Break tasks into smaller tasks

Setting your tasks can be overwhelming because they are often vague. Create bullet points underneath each task and find specific ways that will help you complete the original task.

Decide how long it will take you to do your tasks

Spit your to-do list or plan into 3 sections. Each section could be 0-10 mins, 11mins – 1 hour, 1+ hours. Be realistic and put each task in there. Or next to each smaller task, put a realistic time on how long it will take you to do it. This is super helpful because it gives you an idea of how you’re utilising your time and see whether you need to spend more or less time on a subject.

Review everything you’ve learnt

Whether it be setting 20 minutes every day or 2 hours every week to check over everything you have learnt so your knowledge is consolidated. You could do this by creating revision material and using them after so you are actively engaging with the information you took on earlier.

Keep your work area clean

For many, this may seem unimportant. But, I think this is a huge part of procrastinating because when I look at my messy desk, I feel unmotivated and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the same for you. Once you have used your desk, put everything away and you’ll feel so much more productive.
